The Kibo Cup

As a small thank-you, hand-crafted cups and boxes were made for the Fifth Anniversary of the Kibo Competition. The cup not only celebrates fives years of dedication but also pays homage to the Kibo mascot, the black cat. All components were hand-made by artisans, so there may be some natural variation.

A total of 5 cups will be available through a free raffle. Every contestant who completes a plot this year will automatically be entered into the raffle.

Ships mid-late February. Recipients who have won the raffle must have a shipping address. Ships to anywhere in the world, all expenses covered.

The Cup

Inspired by the Kibo mascot, the cup features a handle expressing the organic curves of a cat’s tail. It is created from black clay to match the monochrome aesthetic. On the bottom is inscribed “KIBO V” to mark this occasion.

The Box

A wooden box made of cedar accompanies the cup, known as a ‘Tomobako’ in Japanese. They are used to house works of art in all mediums, ranging from paintings, sculptures, ceramics and lacquerware. A sanada himo (cotton tape) is used to secure the lid.

The Paper

Washi paper made from the mulberry plant is the final accent piece, used as wrapping paper for the cup. Two styles of washi paper are showcased; one in a traditional Japanese “Seigaiha” wave pattern, while the other contains flecks of silver and gold leaf.
